working worlds
Theme:
Hommage to Harry Martinson. Fuhrmann meets Bergmann: Thorsten Fuhrmann, Huglfing, Germany, and Ottmar Bergmann, Gylsboda Art-Center, Sweden, invite you to take part in the Mailart project "working worlds“. "Men in slouch-hats grew up out of the ground. Wherever we children went to play, stony precipices opened out before them, dark and crawling with men carrying dynamite in their hands. Their mouths were full of oaths and songs and tremendous affirmations. There was a thundering about the lives of these men. They moved about downthere in those stony ravines like the brigands of the Rockies. They bored with iron rods into the rock, drove them down with the sledge-hammers, and then fired. "Blasting"!" they yelled, and clung together on the ledge. Then there was a roar below, and all the buildings of the settlement trembled. It was like this very day all day. Everywhere was forbidden ground.Everywhere the landscape was split up. hollowed out. Stone-pits yawned in the woods. There was a smell of coal-dust and oil, and steam from the winches hung in a cloud round the winch-sheds.!"(Harry Martinson)

Mail ART CALL

SVIYAZHSK. RENAISSANCE OF ISLAND-CITY  SviyazhskTheme:
On the basis of this mail-art project lies the story of Sviyazhsk island-city which is situated in the picturesque mouth of the river Sviyaga on the high hill not far from Kazan, capital of Tatarstan. Not big territory of the island changed for ages the events connected with important moments of Russian history. Sviyazhsk was pagan, orthodox, revolutionary, GULAG. Every period left its marks on the island. Today’s renascence of the city-island is a mark of penitence, respect of contemporaries to own culture no matter how it was. Sviyazhsk of today we can call the place of pray (here goes active reconstruction of old churches and monasteries), the place of art (it is a favorite place of rest and work of painters), the place of songs (in May 2011 the first festival of chamber chorus will pass here), the place of tourism (all conditions for comfort visit of the island for tourists from the whole world are made).
