The Call:
The Wise Monkeys
Theme: The emblem of the City of Chauny (Aisne - France) depicts The Wise Monkeys. The origin of the monkeys of Chauny is rather unclear. Some local historians thought that they represented the tumblers, jugglers and trainers of diverse animals which were established in the brotherhood to Chauny. Rabelais, who certainly saw the jugglers of Chauny, speaks about them in Gargantua.
This project is opened to all.
Technique: free. All techniques are accepted.
Size: 21 cm X 30 cm, bound support (able to be bound in a book).
You must represent your vision of the "monkeys of wisdom".
You can use the back of your work to write a biography or information concerning yourself.
Exhibition: An exhibition of the received works will take place in the cultural center of Chauny, the Forum, at the beginning of the year on 2011. The precise dates of exhibition will be posted on our blog. At the conclusion of the exhibition the works will be manually bound by "E" to create artists' books which will be given to schools and media libraries of the region. The works will also have a second life in an itinerant exhibition in 2011. The works will not be sent back to the artists and will remain the property of "E" for the other itinerant exhibitions …

How to Participate - London Biennale
ARROWS

When I conceived the London Biennale, I thought of the simplest way artists from all over the world could register for free as members of the London Biennale: and this is thus: for every artist to make an arrow of any material and of any size and to have the words "London Biennale" (and date of each biennale, e. g., 2002, 2004 or 2006) together with the artist's name inscribed on the arrow, and for three copies of a photograph (or collage, photomontage, or digital image) of the artist with the arrow and the statue of Eros at Piccadilly Circus to be sent to me. This one requirement for registering for free in the London Biennale is mentioned in the first letter I sent to various artists and to Harald Szeemann, director of the Venice Biennale, Rene Block, formerly director of the Istanbul Biennial , and Isabel Carlos, currently director of the Sydney Biennial. It was mentioned in several press articles announcing the beginning of the London Biennale. Press items about the start of the London Biennale appeared in Art Forum (New York), Flash Art (Milano), the Art Newspaper (London) and the news bulletin of Salle de Bains (Rotterdam).

Other news items appeared in articles in various parts of the world. The Eros statue is a long-standing icon of London. Eros is the god of Love. The arrow signifies both movement and direction, and could symbolise a different thing for each and every artist. In my case, the arrow's trajectory defines the imaginary and real path to creative transcendance.


Many artists who wish to participate in the London Biennale cannot personally come to London due to various reasons. Making the arrow and sending their photos to me mean they become bona fide members of the London Biennale. Artists living abroad, including those who far from London in the English countryside, are therefore able to organise events and exhibitions directly linked to the London Biennale through their personal Eros-Arrows. This has happened several times already and continue to happen in many parts of the world.


I hope this information makes it clear for London Biennale artists the origin of the idea of the arrow and its reason for being and becoming.

On the occasion of the slogan “Donate a chance at life” of the Hellenic Society of Haematology, we are organizing a Mail Art exhibition in Athens, Greece and we are inviting artists from all over the world to participate and donate, with their work, the blood of life for their fellow-man.

Theme: We like to quote one of the pioneer mail artists Robert Rehfeldt: "Your idea helps my idea, our ideas help the ideas of others", because we think that both cooperation and dialogue can generate something new and beautiful.
Open to all.
Size: This mail art project invites you to find alternative ways to use a postcard. Please send a rectangular card of 10x15 cm on the longest side.
Media: The Mail Art postcard must be created with one or more photographs in any way that you like.
On the back please write a short text: a thought, a message, a poem...
The postcard must have a signature, and if possible also your name, so that we can create a list of the participating artists.
The postcard must also contain the written date. Choice of subject is free.
There will be no selection procedure. Participation is free, but the artist takes the responsibility that the Mail Art postcard will be correctly sent through the postal service of his/her own country.
It is possible to send more than one Mail Art postcard or to create a series reassembled from a single work. Please inform us if you intend to do so!
