The Call:
LISTS
Theme:
The Museum of Instant Images invites you to participate in the Mail Art project on the theme of "lists". The essential nature of lists, poets who list things in their works and painters who accumulate things in their paintings. ...  Umberto Eco: The list is the origin of culture. It's part of the history of art and literature. What does culture want? To make infinity comprehensible. It also wants to create order -- not always, but often. And how, as a human being, does one face infinity? How does one attempt to grasp the incomprehensible? Through lists, through catalogs, through collections in museums and through encyclopedias and dictionaries. We also have completely practical lists -- the shopping list, the will, the menu -- that are also cultural achievements in their own right...
To accomplish Eco's infinity of lists, send me your own list, accumulation, enumeration, collection, series, account or frame, etc. in text and image.
Size and technique: free
Exhibition: Exposition in 2011
Documentation: online and sent to all participants

The Call:
A book about Death - next step
Theme:
An Open Call to Artists to Contribute to RAY JOHNSON & A BOOK ABOUT DEATH.  WHAT IS DIFFERENT ABOUT THIS ABAD SHOW?  “RAY JOHNSON AND A BOOK ABOUT DEATH” is a new exhibition that will, for the first time, feature a copy of the original 1955 ABAD project by American artist Ray Johnson–the inspiration for this entire series of exhibitions. It will set the stage for all 480 cards from the original Emily Harvey Gallery exhibit together with new submissions created especially for this show.

No returns.
Exhibition: Curated by Joan Harrison, LuAnn Palazzo and Constance Wolf, the new ABAD show will open in the SAL Art Gallery at the CW Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville, NY, and run October 31 to November 4, 2010.  All submitted work will become part of a permanent Ray Johnson ABAD Archive.
